Hydraulic Oils
Oils used in hydraulic systems have to satisfy all the following criteria and the local
working environment.
A typical hydraulic oil system consists of a pump, control valves and pistons.
Applications include land, sea, and air transport, electrical and machine tools,
robots, and brake systems. We also have biodegradable oils for operation in sensitive
areas such as the sea bed or wind energy farms.
The diversity of oil hydraulic systems, and applications, has resulted in the
development of a wide range of lubricants and fluids.
The viscometric and thermal properties of a hydraulic oil are important, as well
as the fluid being almost totally incompressible, and very pure for high filterability.
There are many formulations available to give optimum solutions in widely differing situations.
Both Mineral oils and Synthetic oils may offer a range of properties, including
- Low temperature sensitivity
- Low compressibility
- Compatibility with sealing materials
- High filterability
Higher thermal stability
- Low internal friction
- Good anti-stick properties
- Good hydrolytic stability
- Increased fire resistance
- Biodegradability
- Compliance with foodstuff regulations etc.
