Lithium Grease
The term Lithium Grease can be slightly misleading as the lithium content is actually the thickener
used to thicken the oil content to make it a grease as opposed to an oil. The formulation of a
lithium grease includes a mineral or synthetic base oil, combined with a lithium thickener,
and other additives, to suit special applications.
The use of a lithium thickener assists in increasing the range of operating stability,
and the ability of a lithium grease to cope, for example, with movement from conditions
of Low Temperature to High Temperature is outstanding.
OEM Lubricants Ltd have developed an exceptionally effective range of lithium greases due to investing
heavily in Research and Development. OEM Lubricants Ltd have developed their own special lithium thickeners
to use in their formulations.
Three examples of Lithium Grease manufactured by OEM Lubricants Ltd are :-
OEM Lubricant 14 which is a fully synthetic Lithium Grease with a service
temperature range of -70°C to + 120°C. It is particularly suited to smaller rolling bearings
with diameters below 25 mm, and very high speed factors up to n.dm 2.2 millions (min-1. mm).
This Lithium Grease is used extensively by bearing manufacturers and the machine tool industry.
OEM Lubricant 33 which is for High Temperatures (-35°C to + 140°C), High Loads,
and High Speeds up to (n . dm < 1 million (min-1. mm). This efficient lithium grease is used
widely and successfully in construction machines, high lift trucks, track laying vehicles, spinning
spindles and grinding spindles. It is also used extensively in wheel set bearings exposed to high
vibrations in rail vehicles, and other applications where rolling and stretching processes
cause juddering.
OEM Lubricant 62 which is a heavy duty Lithium Grease with a temperature range
of -35°C to +160°C and is used especially in rolling and sliding bearings in spindles and
electric motors and small miniature bearings. There is also a 'Special' version of this
grease that is designed for the lifetime protection of electric starter motors in the
automotive industry.
